Daly Beats Wilson in Hard Fought Final
Yesterday’s Colorado Open final came to an exciting conclusion following a hard fought battle between OX Billiards’ Dave Daly and The Wreck Room’s Mark Wilson. Dave Daly took his opportunity in the first frame to go 1-0 up after a brief safety exchange which left Mark chasing for most of the frame. Second frame started much the same but went down to pink and black. With Dave getting the rub of the green and leaving Mark knuckled in the yellow pocket, the task proved too much to make contact with the pink ball which was tight to side cushion in the business end of the table, and subsequently conceded the frame after three failed attempts to make it 2-0 to Daly.
Frame three saw Mark rally to make a 20+ point break and put the pressure on Daly which he handled like a true champion. Dave responded with a well compiled break of 21 from only utilizing the yellow and green to accumulate points which made it all that more impressive. Finally, with only the three highest colours remaining, Mark held his nerve to knock in a long blue, which subsequently left a relatively straight pink into the middle pocket to claw back a frame and make it 2-1.
Frame four again had a ton of quality snooker on display. A lot of positive shots played, and a lot of good safety by both players. Dave continued to show his bottle as the frame got to the latter stages, but not without a few scares along the way. He would eventually take the forth frame to make it 3-1. With one more frame left to play, Dave’s quality and experience proved too much for Mark and after a number of quality snookers, Mark conceded for a second time, handing Dave the frame, match and a well deserved win. He takes home to Seattle a bottle of Two Drams, blended whiskey kindly sponsored by our friends at Breckenridge Distillery, a prize of one thousand dollars and of course, the Colorado Open Trophy.
Colorado Snooker would again like to extend our thanks to all of our sponsors; Rick Amico, Breckenridge Distillery, Lionheart Electrical, The Wreck Room Underground and A26 Projects & Design Ltd. for their support of the Inaugural Colorado Open.
