playing the game
These are the rules that govern how to play snooker and English billiards as defined by the WPBSA.
Customs, decorum and ediquette
Snooker is a game with a list of officials rules as long a cue itself. However, the un-official side to the game as far as rules are concerned, are very simple. If you spend enough time at a local club or any facility that draws a snooker crowd, you can rest assured that there will be a club policy that outlines its expectations in how you behave.
As far as it goes on the table, here are a few examples of what you can expect from your opponent and what they may expect from you:
Break off with intent to play snooker. Do NOT smash into/off the pack of reds.
Play fair.
Admit to ALL unseen fouls.
Play at a respectful noise level.
Do NOT walk into the line of another player’s shot.
Do NOT stand in line of opponent’s shot.
Shake hands before match begins, before decider and at the end of the match.
Respot coloured balls after they have been potted.
Keep score of your opponent’s break.
No food or drinks on the table.
